The national restaurant chain Cheddar’s Casual Café turned to MMS Consultants, Inc. when it decided to return to Iowa. The Coralville store in the Eastern Iowa Corridor was the casual American dining chain’s first of several planned locations in the state.
Based in Irving, Texas, Cheddar’s came to Iowa with civil and landscape guidelines set, but in need of local expertise for the design and approval process. The company had firm requirements for some things, and MMS diligently met Cheddar’s standards and expectations.
MMS Consultants provided the necessary construction documents, assisted with approval and permitting process, and coordinated with mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers. Scope of the project included surveying, site plan, paving plan, grading and erosion control, and a utility plan.
Grading posed a challenge as the site came with significant grading differential. The site is located just north of Interstate 80 atop a steep incline. MMS Consultants designed a retaining wall along the interstate to protect the site’s integrity.
