Fairmeadows Park Splash Pad

Fairmeadows Park Splash PadAfter introducing a popular splash pad at nearby Wetherby Park, the City of Iowa City jumped at the opportunity to add a similar play area in the Grant Wood neighborhood. The addition of the Fairmeadows Park Splash Pad was intended to alleviate crowding at Wetherby and to make these features available to a larger number of children — of all ages.

The splash pad includes 16 colorful aquatic structures for children to play in on hot summer days. It is located in Fairmeadows Park, on Miami Drive, near Grant Wood Elementary. The park is a hub for summer activities in the Grant Wood neighborhood, making the splash pad a welcome addition to the already bustling park.

MMS was brought on to design the site and utility connections for the splash pad, which involved an overall park layout plan, design of parking and trails within the park, and splash pad/plaza paving, among other things. The splash pad was opened for public use on June 23, 2013, and operates 12 hours a day throughout the summer.
