Senior Civil Engineer - Wastewater

We need someone who is a licensed Professional Engineer to serve as the point of client contact and project lead for a variety of land development projects. Applicants who are deeply familiar with current best water practices and/or transportation will have an advantage.

This is a leadership position and requires someone who is comfortable with networking to develop new business relationships, public speaking, and presentations. Your day will find you spending time designing, but also getting out to meet clients.

Responsibilities

Engineering:

  • Design water supply, wastewater facilities and processes, municipal improvements, subdivisions and site plans.
  • Make design recommendations, adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform calculations for project design and permitting.
  • Prepare site investigation, analyses and technical reports.
  • Review and summarize local, state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare accurate contract documents for publicly bid projects, including but not limited to plan drawings, design computations, cost estimates and technical specifications.
  • Prepare accurate permit application packages.
  • Work with our Engineering Techs to complete design work using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Work closely with other professionals on multidisciplinary projects.

Project management:

  • Develop fees and work with our Marketing staff to write proposals, prep and deliver presentations, and negotiate and review contracts.
  • Manage and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
  • Monitor financial status of projects and tasks.
  • Responsible for project schedules and completion of projects on deadline.
  • Effectively communicate information to staff, clients and leadership team.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
  • Attend meetings, sometimes outside regular work hours, with city councils, P&Z; boards and clients.

Business development:

  • Enhance the firm’s reputation with clients, the public and the profession. 
  • Help build the professional practice of the firm.
  • Develop and expand sales and new clients.
  • Represent the company and engineering department in client meetings, project meetings and presentations in a professional and confident manner.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, clients, contractors and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop a network of clients, partners and influencers within engineering communities.
  • Participate in related professional societies, conferences and local organizations in support of business development and networking.
Qualifications

The qualified candidate is a Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa or able to become licensed in Iowa. Five to seven years’ experience is required. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required; an emphasis on hydrology or environmental engineering not required but preferred. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.

Surveyor/Survey Coordinator

We're looking for candidates who are surveyors or who have surveying experience with working knowledge of Engineering Tech to oversee and coordinate one of the largest surveying departments in Eastern Iowa. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, works independently, has sound decision-making and communication skills. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of all kinds of surveys and an ability to communicate effectively with our Engineering Tech staff.

This position is in our Iowa City office.

Responsibilities:

Manage and direct schedules for a Survey Department that includes 6 Survey Chiefs and 4 licensed surveyors.

Multitask on several projects at one time, applying appropriate effort to each.

Communicate with managers, peers, and clients as needed to maintain workflow.

Prepare site investigation, analyses and technical reports.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have working knowledge of surveying methods and equipment. Hands on survey experience is a plus, as is familiarity with AutoCAD 3D systems. A civil engineering background or education is preferred.

Entry Level Engineer

 

This is an entry level, full time position for a recent graduate. You will have recently completed or be within months of completing your bachelor's degree in civil engineering. This is a career path position that offers a competitive salary as well as professional support for your efforts to obtain a professional engineer's license in the State of Iowa.

Our goal for the successful candidate is advancement to Senior Civil Engineer at a pace determined by achievement.

Responsibilities:

Assist licensed professional engineers with plan preparation, evaluation of field conditions, design and reports.

Employ data from topographical surveys, municipal project plans, subdivision construction plans and water management plans to develop design solutions.

This position is in our Iowa City office.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized and excels at multitasking and meeting deadlines.

Qualified candidates must have experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at graduation

Engineering/CAD Technician

MMS Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer technician with demonstrated CAD skills to join our civil engineering and land surveying firm. The right candidate will join an experienced team of engineer technicians, working in support of our Professional Engineers and project managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist civil engineers with plan preparation, evaluation of field conditions, design changes and reports.
  • Analyze and help create topographical surveys, municipal project plans, subdivision construction plans and water management projects.

This position is in our Iowa City office

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized and excels at multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Qualified candidates must have three to five years’ experience as an engineering technician and be deeply familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D. An associate’s degree in computer drafting is preferred, but not required.
